Fashion is expensive, but you may not be rich

No one has ever said that affluence is a barrier to entry into the fashion industry, but for us ordinary people, we have to admit that it's a struggle to look like [the Queen in PRADA] in the new season. Although you can overspend to fit in or to be vain, there is no need to do so.
Entry-level earnings in the fashion industry, like many other industries, are not as high as you might think.

"Reducing the frequency of paying for your desires will leave you with treasures that are more reflective of your attitude towards fashion.
As the cost of living crisis continues to take its toll on UK spending, consumers are being pushed towards discount brands and the second-hand market, with more than half of consumers planning to shop at discounted homeware and fashion brands this year and a significant increase in shoppers turning to the second-hand market, according to a new report from Cardlytics. The data shows that discount retailers saw the biggest increase in the first half of 2022, up 12% on 2021; second-hand platforms grew by 7% and the average number of transactions on the relevant platforms increased by 6%; consumers were also found to prefer high street brands to designer brands, with high street fashion deals up 11% and designer brands down 7%; the number of luxury brand deals also fell by The number of deals for luxury brands also fell by 10%, with around 60% of consumers saying they plan to spend less on luxury goods this year, while 48% said they want to move to cheaper brands.

So it also means that the trend of spending purely for the sake of showing off is fading away and the idea of personalised consumption is becoming more prevalent, with healthy, convenient and substantial pieces becoming the dominant trend nowadays.

On the other hand, I still love the fashion industry, because I can experience the world of desire like in the movies, going through the shows of various brands, seeing the new products in the order book six months in advance, being friends with the designers and attending events with celebrities.
"You can immerse yourself in it, but you have to be aware that none of these hot uses belong to you".

"Fashion is a subject that explores beauty, and the fashion industry is more like an engine to realise beauty. As a fashion week show operator, it's more about the overwhelming meetings in the preparation period to design, build and invest in the show, the endless docking of details with brands, and the busy schedule of running up and down to receive buyers and media during the show. There were many moments that were different from what I imagined at the beginning, crouching on the floor to maintain fragile art installations and being at a loss on the construction site.
Now, I cherish these seemingly trivial details, and it's every step on the ground that is evidence of your growth in the industry. In the fashion industry, where people are masters of everything, people only recognise the final presentation, and as I've moved from being a spectator to a participant, I've come to realise that if you can't stand the usual tedium and fuss, even if you're surrounded by fashionistas at the most fancy events, "you still don't have a voice".
The fashion industry is much the same as any other industry, but it's a magnification of the
perspective that is most easily perceived and longed for by everyone, which is one of the reasons why its fierce internal competition is even more dramatic. Increasingly, it is becoming clear that the competition is not about how expensive clothes and jewellery you wear or how many celebrities you meet, but the depth of understanding of the logic behind the workings of fashion and the competitiveness that comes from working deeply in a field that you love to enhance.
